Your Topic:
The Psychology of Success, Happiness and Meaning
Drawing on extensive psychological research and years of work in challenged environments, this talk explores how modern Western cultures have reshaped our ideas about success, happiness, meaning, and wellbeing, in ways that can actually be harmful to them. Guided by lessons from alternate cultural environments including wartime Ukraine, it lays out a series of practical tools that can help us reconnect with community and meaning, while encouraging us to take a more holistic approach to our wellbeing.
Your Speaker:
Ash Humphrey
Ashley completed his PhD in Psychology at Monash University, Melbourne, where he continues to work as a researcher and lecturer in the Social Sciences. Fascinated by the nature of wellbeing and how it is understood and pursued in different cultures, this is a curiosity that has led him to conduct research all over the world. More recently this work has focused on the wellbeing of vulnerable population groups, including those living in Ukraine. His written work has been published in leading scientific journals and popular media outlets, culminating in the publication of his first book Cultural Deceptions. He is also the founder of the JET Program, an organization that has worked with thousands of young people addressing topics of values and mental health.
