Go inside the Baja Peninsula expedition to create Mexico’s first national long-distance hiking trail and watch the award-winning short film.
Footprints that Inspire follows Zelzin Aketzalli, the first person from Mexico to complete the Triple Crown of Hiking, as she circumnavigates her home mountain, the Iztaccíhuatl volcano. Raised in a violent neighborhood in Mexico City, Zelzin turned adversity into strength and found purpose by hiking some of the world's most iconic trails.
Zelzin Aketzalli is a trail creator, engineer, athlete, and filmmaker from Mexico. She is the first Mexican to complete the Triple Crown of Hiking and has been recognized as one of Trail Builder Magazine’s Top Women Trail Builders. She makes her directorial debut with the short documentary Zelzin: Footprints That Inspire (Huellas que Inspiran) and is currently filming her first feature-length adventure documentary, following her mission to create Mexico’s first national long-distance trail. Her work as a thru-hiker and storyteller has been featured by Outside Magazine, Continental Divide Trail Coalition, and Univision.
