Three musicians revisit Japanese musical memories through voice, percussion, marimba, piano and free improvisation.

Taiko Saito – marimba, vibraphone, kakeai, taiko drum
Yuko Oshima – drums, rin, lead voice
Rieko Okuda – piano, kakeai.
The hikaeme trio began in 2024 when three Japanese musicians, now based in Berlin and Strasbourg, decided to listen more closely to the sounds they had carried with them. Taiko Saito, Yuko Oshima and Rieko Okuda draw on Nagauta, Ondo and Hayashi, forms they have known in different ways since childhood, and let them meet free jazz, rock and improvisation.
This is a personal conversation with tradition, not a tidy demonstration of it. Oshima has studied Nagauta singing; Saito grew up with Hokkai Bon-uta in Hokkaido and plays taiko; Okuda remembers dancing Kawachi Ondo when she was young. Their voices answer one another through kakeai, while piano, percussion, marimba and vibraphone keep the ground shifting. The three bring those memories onto the stage and see what new music they can make together.
