Arrive early or stay late to mingle and eat from the Mahjong menu at Kimpton Marlowe Hotel. Sip on a mahjong-themed cocktail or order from the mahjong inspired food menu, as part of Kimpton Marlowe Hotel's Mahjong and Mingle series (food and drink purchased separately). All tickets include a $20 food and beverage credit to be used during the event.

Come solo and meet other players or bring your group! Parking is complimentary for all Mahjong participants.

Mahjong 101

Get an introduction to American mahjong. We will introduce the tiles, the NMJL card, the charleston and basic game play. Additional rules and strategy support provided in the follow up class, mahjong 102.

Mahjong 102

We strongly suggest signing up for this continuing lesson one week after taking mahjong 101. We'll do a quick review of basics and then dive into gameplay, adding on a few additional rules and more rule and strategy support. Must have played at least 1 game of mahjong.

Guided Play and Strategy

We recommend signing up for this the week after taking mahjong 102, and any additional weeks you feel you want more supported play. We will support a small group of players to develop confidence with rules and strategies. Must have played at least 3-4 times.

Open Play (independent)

Already know the basics of mahjong and want to play independently? Join for open (independent) play. This is meant to be friendly, social, and community building. We will provide full mahjong set-ups. Typically 2-3 open play tables each week. We will do our best to arrange tables by level, but it is not guaranteed and youmust be willing to play with beginner players who know the basics and can play independently. When weather permits, there is an option for open play outside on the patio or inside. Please prepare that if there are last minute cancellations, you may be at a table for 3 player mahjong. We will help make sure you know how to play with 3 players.

We are Beverly and Emily, a mother-daughter duo and experienced Canasta and American Mah Jongg instructors. We’ve taught hundreds of students and are passionate about making these games accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Beverly is a retired teacher, principal, and special education administrator. Emily is a high school special education teacher.

Tickets are non-refundable. If you have signed up but are not longer able to attend, you may transfer your ticket to a friend for the same date.
