Shattered Ice at American University | Nehoiden Black Bears Social Impact Series
Shattered Ice at American University | Nehoiden Black Bears Social Impact Series
Join us at American University on Wednesday, October 7 for a special screening of the award-winning feature film Shattered Ice, followed by a live panel conversation exploring mental health, grief, student-athlete well-being, and the importance of creating communities where people feel comfortable asking for help.
In a small New England hockey town, high school star Will Mankus (Charlie Gillespie) sees his future unravel after his best friend and teammate dies by suicide. Retreating from the people closest to him, Will struggles to find his place in a world that has suddenly moved on without his friend. As an unlikely bond forms with the team’s new coach (Jack Falahee), Will and the Nehoiden Black Bears search for a way forward together.
Shattered Ice is an intimate coming-of-age drama about friendship, grief, hockey, and the courage to let someone know when you’re not okay.
The screening is part of the Nehoiden Black Bears Social Impact Series, a nationwide initiative using the film as a catalyst to bring students, athletes, coaches, mental health professionals, and communities together for meaningful conversations around mental health.
Post-Screening Conversation
Following the film, guests are invited to stay for a panel discussion featuring special guests.
Together, the panel will explore the themes raised by the film, the unique pressures facing student-athletes and young adults, and how we can better recognize when someone around us may be struggling.
