What Is Surface Design? Design for Fabric Printing Workshop
Transform your artwork into custom fabric at Mood Fabrics Chicago! Learn file prep and fabric printing in this hands-on workshop.
Transform your original artwork into a design suitable for printing on fabric and sewing into various projects. No sewing experience necessary—intended for anyone who creates visuals (illustration, photography, collage, or something else!) and is curious about working with fabric.
- What you’ll be doing: You’ll learn the essential steps needed to order custom fabric yardage printed with any digital image, on a range of woven and knit fabrics—from high-end silks to sturdy denim to ripstop nylon (what we’ll be using for the tote bag!). After an interactive presentation and live demo, you’ll have time to dive into file prep using free software during the working session.
- Do you need to bring anything? If you already have digital images in mind and want to work on file prep during the class, bring a laptop and a high-resolution copy of those images.
- What to expect: Expect a productive 1-hour session that splits time between an educational presentation, touching and feeling project samples, and an instructor-led workshop. You’ll leave with all the tools necessary to prepare and order a final design on the fabric of your choosing.
