Stephen Paulus's organ suite for Pipedreams host Michael Barone, complete for the first time, on Trinity Church's new organ. Free.
In 2008 and 2013, the composer Stephen Paulus wrote two movements of an organ suite in honor of Michael Barone, the host of Pipedreams, taking the titles from phrases Michael used on the air. He intended to write more. When he died in 2014, the suite was still two movements long.
On January 20, 2027, in the month Pipedreams turns forty-five, the Paulus Fund presents the world premiere of the complete six-movement Baronian Suite, built entirely from Paulus's own music, on the new Glatter-Götz/Rosales organ at Trinity Church Wall Street. Stephen Tharp, Justin Bischof and Jeremy Filsell share the suite between them, and each plays a short work of his own choosing. The program also includes Paulus's Paean for two organists and the third movement of his Piano Concerto No. 1, arranged for two organists and piano.
The Baronian Suite: Toccata II, A Refined Reflection, Explosions, Berceuse, Blithely Breezing Along, and This Time They Got Me (from The Postman Always Rings Twice). Order of movements to be announced.
Admission is free. Seating is limited, so please reserve. Doors open at 5:15 p.m.; the concert begins at 6:00 p.m. and runs approximately 90 minutes. Trinity Church is at 89 Broadway at Wall Street (4/5 and 2/3 to Wall St, R/W and 1 to Rector St, J/Z to Broad St) and is wheelchair accessible.
