Scottish Association for Language Teaching Conference 2026
The Future Speaks Many Languages
The Scottish Association for Language Teaching warmly welcomes you to our annual conference which will this year take place on Saturday 7th November 2026. The event will last from 9.30am until 3.45pm. We are hosting this event at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, in partnership with our friends and colleagues at SCILT (Scotland’s National Centre for Languages).
Our chosen theme for 2026 is The Future Speaks Many Languages. Against the backdrop of Scotland's Curriculum Improvement Cycle, this conference will celebrate the schools and teachers who are innovating in language teaching and working hard to keep languages on the agenda in their setting. At this year’s conference, you will have the opportunity to hear from colleagues from different sectors who are:
• delivering engaging language learning experiences in their classroom
• motivating learners through creative approaches to the curriculum
• creating opportunities for professional learning beyond the classroom
We had a fantastic response to our call for proposals earlier this year and we are delighted to share our exciting and varied programme with you. There are a variety different workshops on offer with colleagues able to join four different sessions across the day.
The conference offers a range of workshops from teachers, lecturers, education officers and languages consultants from all over Scotland and even beyond in some cases. There is a mixture of workshops for primary and secondary teachers of languages, as well as many workshops which are suitable for colleagues from all backgrounds.
We are also delighted to have our national partners, the Languages team at Education Scotland and our colleagues from SCILT, represented at the conference.
The ticket price is inclusive of: welcome pastry and tea/coffee, lunch, four workshops, and access to the materials from all workshops on offer.
We hope you can join us for what is sure to be a fantastic day of professional learning and networking!
