Echoes of Kafka Contemporary Opera [concert: Offbeat Bohemia]
Kafka meets contemporary sound: Jiří Trtík’s opera music and Never Sol’s haunting vocals in an immersive night of piano and electronics.
Enter a dreamlike world of piano, voice, and electronics with Czech composer Jiří Trtík and singer, composer, and producer Never Sol (Sára Vondrášková).
Trtík will perform selections from Kafka’s Letter to His Father in arrangements for piano and synthesizers, alongside other recent works. The intimate opera explores Kafka’s troubled relationship with his father and the freedom he finds through writing. It premiered at Prague’s National Theatre in 2024, with its U.S. premiere scheduled at CAP UCLA this November.
The evening also features Never Sol, whose expressive vocals and layered synthesizers move between delicate melodies and powerful waves of sound.
