Do I need to know how to play American Mahjong?

Not at all! Choose the Beginner Lesson ticket and we’ll teach you the fundamentals of American Mahjong. No prior experience is needed.

What’s the difference between Beginner Lessons and Experienced Open Play?

Accepted Answer

Beginner Lessons include hands-on instruction covering the tiles, Charleston, rules, basic strategy, and guided play. Experienced Open Play is for players who already know how to play American Mahjong and are ready to jump into games.

Do I need to bring a Mahjong set or other equipment?

Accepted Answer

No. Mind Your Mahjong provides the Mahjong sets, racks, mats, and other equipment needed for the evening.

Do I need an NMJL card?

Accepted Answer

Beginners do not need to bring a card; cards will be available to use during instruction. Experienced players should bring their 2026 National Mah Jongg League card. If you've forgotten to bring your card, there will some available for sale at the event for $20.

Can I come by myself?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely! You do not need to arrive with a group of four. Many guests come on their own, and we’ll help get players seated at tables. There’s always a seat at the table!

Can I register with friends?

Of course! If you’d like to play together, arrive together or let us know when you check in. We’ll do our best to seat your group together.

Where will Mahjong be held at Aslin Alexandria?

We’ll be playing in Aslin Alexandria’s main tasting room. Look for the Mind Your Mahjong tables when you arrive.

What time should I arrive?

The event begins at 6:30 PM. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to check in, grab a drink, and find your table. Beginners should plan to be seated and ready to start at 6:30 PM so you don’t miss the beginning of instruction.

Will food and drinks be available?

Accepted Answer

Aslin beverages and available food offerings may be purchased directly from Aslin during the event. No outside food or beverages, please.

Is there a Mahjtoberfest raffle?

Yes! Every registered guest receives one raffle entry for a chance to win a Mahjong-inspired prize. Want an extra entry? Come dressed in your fall or Oktoberfest best!

Do I have to dress for Mahjtoberfest?

Not at all. Festive attire is completely optional—but it will earn you an extra raffle entry. Lederhosen not required—but encouraged! ?

Can I buy a ticket at the door?

Advance registration is strongly encouraged. Walk-ins can only be accommodated if space is available.

What is the refund or transfer policy?

Accepted Answer

Refunds are available up to 7 days before the event. With at least 48 hours’ notice, tickets may be transferred once to another Mind Your Mahjong event, subject to availability. Price differences apply. No refunds or transfers within 48 hours of the event.
