History Film Forum presents "Faith Healers"
The History Film Forum presents "Faith Healers", with director Regina Aquino.
The History Film Forum proudly presents Faith Healers, in partnership with the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center.
Faith Healers explores the history of doctors who left the Philippines to care for patients in the United States. The documentary traces Dr. Zorayda Lee-Llacer's journey to the United States and her contributions to American healthcare. Against the backdrop of the colonial relationship between the United States and the Philippines, the film examines the challenges and achievements of a vibrant Filipino American community that grew just outside the nation’s capital in Prince George’s County, Maryland.
Along with the story of Dr. Lee-Llacer, the film explores the experiences of second-generation Filipino Americans and examines how the Philippines continues to shape their identities from afar. Faith Healers is ultimately a story of sacrifice, service, community, and the preservation of Filipino American history.
