Requiem for the Postmodern Left: Aymeric Monville & Gabriel Rockhill

Join us on Friday, October 30, at Busboys and Poets Takoma for an in-person evening with French philosopher and publisher Aymeric Monville and philosopher Gabriel Rockhill, in conversation with Daniel Tutt. For decades, "French Theory," the work of thinkers like Foucault, Deleuze, and Derrida and the Nietzschean currents behind them, has shaped how much of the Western left thinks about power, politics, and emancipation. Monville and Rockhill argue that this legacy has disarmed rather than empowered the left, and they make the case for returning to a Marxist understanding of class struggle and social transformation. Expect a lively, provocative discussion followed by an open Q&A with the audience.

Copies of Monville's The Poverty of Left Nietzscheanism (with a new introduction by Gabriel Rockhill) and the authors' joint book, Requiem for French Theory: Transatlantic Funeral Dirge in a Marxist Key, will be for sale at the event.
