Musical Innovation in the Age of AI
Overview
A demonstration of music composition using traditional and AI methods followed by a moderated conversation, audience Q&A, and reception.
For centuries, composers have drawn on their inherent creativity to generate new music. Now, songwriters can work with AI-powered software to help them improvise and develop variations on their ideas. How does the composer’s work change in the age of AI? Will audiences embrace music composed (in part) by computers? In this free public program, we invite a traditional composer and an expert in computational creativity to sit at the piano—and at the laptop—to explore the possibilities and pitfalls of AI-assisted songwriting. A book signing will follow.
