Free concert! Travel back in time to Edo Japan with an evening of meditative honkyoku music.
Join shakuhachi masters Mizuno Kohmei, Igarashi Suimei, and Yajima Yūsuke for an evening of meditative honkyoku music in the Kinko-ryū style. These traditional pieces, which have been performed since the Edo period, usually evoke imagery from the natural world or the contemplative imagination. With the help of friendly commentary, we aim to create an atmosphere where anyone can sink into honkyoku music's spiritual and artistic depths. This program will include "Hi Fu Mi Hachigaeshi no Shirabe," "Akebono Sugagaki," "Banshiki Chō," and "Shin no Kyōrei." Open to all. Commentary in Japanese. Free admission, no tickets required.
