Cookies & Crime: Lizzie Borden 1pm

Cookies & Crime: Lizzie Borden 1pm

Overview

We can't think of a better way to spend Halloween than decorating cookies inspired by one of America’s most infamous murder cases.

Join us on Halloween and decorate six themed cookies, while discussing a little dark history, and the decidedly unpleasant events of August 4, 1892. We’ll dig into Lizzie Borden, the brutal murders of her father and stepmother, the investigation that followed, and the question that has kept people arguing for more than 130 years: did Lizzie do it? Come for the frosting. Stay for the axes, alibis, and Victorian family dysfunction.

And while no previous cookie-decorating experience is required, we’re not just handing you six cookies and a bag of icing and calling it a class. We've learned we just can't do simple. These designs incorporate a variety of intermediate decorating techniques, and we’ll walk you through them step by step. Whether you’re brand new to royal icing or already know your way around a piping bag, you’ll learn something and leave with six cookies you’ll be proud of.

What happens when two spooky, true crime-loving, culinary-obsessed women work back-to-back in a kitchen store for four years while customers repeatedly ask, “When are you going to start offering classes?” Apparently, you end up with a harebrained idea to combine the things you love and hope other people love them too.

Rachael — an award-winning cookie decorator who has taught classes locally and at CookieCon — regularly looks at completely normal objects and asks, “How can I make that a cookie?”

Amy brings absolutely no credentials to the table beyond a love of research, a fascination with all things sinister, and a near-total inability to shut up once she starts telling a story.

Together, they’re here to guide you through an afternoon of frosting, murder, and questionable Victorian behavior.

No decorating experience required. Just come hang out, snack, decorate cookies, and discuss suspicious behavior.
