HEAT EXCHANGE CONVENING

What can we learn from each other by building coalitions across borders? BFI invites you to the first Heat Exchange Convening, an interactive two-day program of panel discussions and presentations by guest artists and curators from Miami and Norway. This series considers research and practices around cultural ecosystems, collaboration, resources, and how to prioritize artists within arts infrastructure. Attendees are encouraged to join breakout sessions to connect with panelists between talks.

The Convening’s core participants will share reflections and insights from their time at Heat Exchange, a reciprocal residency sending Miami artists to Norway, and Norwegian artists to Miami, in partnership with UKS (Unge Kunstneres Samfund/Young Artists’s Society) in Oslo, Norway. This immersive residency is designed for artists who organize, teach, advocate, build institutions, create artist-run spaces, and work at the intersection of art and collective life.

Saturday, 10/3 features artists A.L. Steiner, Tanja Thorjussen, Tatjana Kolpus, and Martin Andersen, Jessica Gispert, Orlando Estrada, Sheherazade Thenard, and James Balo.

11am-6pm

Sunday, 10/4 features Lee Pivnik, misael soto, Loni Johnson, Houston R. Cypress, Karla Zurita, Katerina Llanes, Tanja Thorjussen, Tatjana Kolpus, and Martin Andersen.

A light brunch at 11am and catered lunch at 2:15pm will be provided on both days.
