Overview

An Intimate night of music, poetry and Detroit soul celebrating APROPOS "10th Floor" with special guest Jessica Care Moore.

APROPOS: The Voice of Modern Soul

The Artist

APROPOS (“AP”) is an international recording artist and vocal powerhouse whose dynamic songwriting, electric stage presence, and unforgettable voice have captivated audiences worldwide. Featured on NBC’s The Voice (Season 19), AP has earned praise from Pitchfork, Complex, Billboard, and more — blending vintage soul aesthetics with a contemporary lens on love and connection.

The Sound

His breakout single “10th Floor” — described by SoulTracks as a “smoldering groove ballad that elicits equal parts nostalgia and seduction” — debuted as a Top 5 Most‑Added R&B Radio Hit and climbed alongside icons like Beyoncé, Raheem DeVaughn, and Bruno Mars. Critics call his music “a gorgeous soul confection rooted in classic Motown craftsmanship yet totally contemporary.”

The Journey

From Detroit to London, Apropos has collaborated with legends and innovators alike — from Danny Brown and Talib Kweli to Oliver Dollar and DJ Holographic. His debut album (Verse)atility drew acclaim across continents, even earning a shout‑out from Sir Elton John on his Rocket Hour radio show. AP’s live performances have shared stages with The Roots, Tank and the Bangas, Moonchild, and Royce da 5’9”, among others.

The Vision

Now signed to Detroit producer Jake Bass’s Bassment Sounds 2.0, Apropos continues to redefine modern R&B — weaving gospel, funk, and hip‑hop into a sound that feels timeless yet fresh. His artistry embodies what mentor Allee Willis once called “Otis Redding blended with Marvin Gaye, stirred with contemporary R&B, hip‑hop, and funk.”

Jessica Care Moore is Detroit’s Poet Laureate and an award-winning poet, recording artist, publisher, activist, and filmmaker. A five-time Showtime at the Apollo winner, her work has graced stages from Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center to the Apollo Theater and is featured in the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. She has collaborated with cultural icons including Nas, Common, Talib Kweli, Jeff Mills, Roy Ayers and The Last Poets, while championing generations of artists through Moore Black Press and Black WOMEN Rock! A celebrated Detroit cultural force, Moore continues to push the boundaries of poetry, music, art and activism.
