Elvin Bishop went into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2015 as a founding guitarist of the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, which he joined in 1963 after a National Merit Scholarship took him to the University of Chicago to study physics. When Mike Bloomfield left, the record they cut was titled after Bishop's own nickname, Pigboy Crabshaw. He put Mickey Thomas out front on Fooled Around and Fell in Love and rode it to number three, and the Blues Hall of Fame followed in 2016. He brings five pieces: Kid Andersen of Greaseland on guitar, Bob Welsh on keys, Lisa Leuschner Andersen singing, Endre Tarczy on bass and Paul Revelli on drums. Two shows, and a guitar player who has been at this since Kennedy was president.
He has recorded for Capricorn, Blind Pig, Delta Groove and Alligator, and has shared stages with John Lee Hooker, Clifton Chenier, Bo Diddley and B.B. King. Two of his records drew Grammy nominations for Best Traditional Blues Album: the Big Fun Trio debut in 2017 and 100 Years of Blues with Charlie Musselwhite in 2020. Kid Andersen produced the second one at Greaseland and Bob Welsh played on it. Both are on this bill.
