Jeffrey James Horan is a San Francisco Bay Area blues guitarist and singer who spent roughly two decades in the band of John Lee Hooker Jr., son of the man who cut "Boom Boom." He played rhythm guitar on Hooker Jr.'s Grammy nominated 2004 debut, Blues With a Vengeance, and returned as a guitarist on Cold as Ice, released by Telarc in 2006. He still held the guitar chair in Hooker Jr.'s touring band in 2008, the year All Odds Against Me drew a second Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album, and in 2020 Hooker gave him a featured credit of his own on "Let That Devil Go."
His credits run wider than the club circuit suggests, including pedal steel on Indiana pianist Slats Klug's 2007 roots album alongside Carrie Newcomer and Tad Robinson. The Golden Gate Blues Society voted him its solo winner and sent him to Memphis to represent San Francisco at the International Blues Challenge. Two decades of making somebody else's records sound right, and now the trio plays his own songs.
