Between Rhythm and Silence, funded in part by the City of Houston - HAA

Between Rhythm and Silence is a poetic and emotional journey in which piano, voice, dance, and spoken word intertwine to give expression to flamenco, cante jondo, and a way of living shaped by nostalgia, passion, struggle, and survival. Each discipline appears, disappears, and passes its impulse on to another. A word may become a gesture; a gesture, a rhythm; a rhythm, a song; and song, ultimately, may return once again to silence.

At the heart of the work is the idea that silence does not represent absence. It is the place from which everything begins...memory, breath, desire, movement, and music. The recital begins in an intimate silence and ends in another silence, transformed by the shared experience.
