Straight Up & Toasted at The Carnegie Club

The nights are turning cool again — it's time to move back indoors. Join us on Wednesday, September 30th at 8pm at The Carnegie Club, located at 156 W 56th Street in Midtown Manhattan. Live jazz all evening, in one of the last rooms in New York where you can still pour a whiskey and light a cigar.

For cigars, we’re featuring two standout releases from Karen Berger Cigars out of Esteli, Nicaragua. Karen Berger started in the industry at 18 as a roller and today owns both the farm and the factory — one of very few women in Nicaragua to do so — blending every cigar that carries her name.

The Karen Berger K-Fire is the bolder of the two: a box-pressed 6x52 toro under a Mexican San Andres wrapper, full-bodied, with earth and toasted wood, espresso and cocoa, and a warm pepper that builds through the final third. The Karen Berger Ixtelli is her first all-Nicaraguan puro — a medium-bodied habano criollo toro named for the original word for Esteli — opening with white pepper before moving into tangy fruit, sweet cracker and dark chocolate.

To pair, we’re pouring two exceptional bourbons. Basil Hayden Cognac Cask Reserve is a limited release finished in French oak casks that held Cognac for 20 to 25 years, bringing caramel sweetness and dried fruit to Basil Hayden’s signature high-rye spice. Knob Creek 21 Year is the oldest bourbon Knob Creek has ever released — 100 proof, seasoned oak and caramelized sugar on the nose, a long finish of toffee and charred oak.
