Honouring Loved Ones Through Tradition
Join Master ICY and Lucas Li at Lion Trading for a hands-on cultural workshop exploring the Chinese tradition of remembering and honouring loved ones who have passed.
For generations, Chinese families have used traditional paper offerings and joss clothing as a way to express remembrance, respect, and care for their ancestors and departed loved ones. During festivals such as Mid-Autumn and Chongyang, these traditions can carry an especially meaningful connection to family and remembrance.
During this workshop, we will introduce the history, meaning, and cultural significance behind traditional joss paper and the 衣包 (joss clothing package). You will learn about the different types of joss paper placed inside the package, what each offering represents, and why they are traditionally included.
Then, with guidance from Master ICY and Lucas, you will prepare your own joss clothing package step by step for an ancestor or departed loved one. We will also explain the traditional process of preparing, dedicating, and offering the package so you can better understand the meaning behind the complete tradition.
Whether you grew up around these traditions or are discovering them for the first time, everyone is welcome. No previous knowledge or experience is required.
Your $68 registration includes:
- One basic joss clothing package
- All joss paper and workshop materials
- Step-by-step instruction
- Cultural explanation of the different offerings and their meanings
This workshop is about more than learning how to make an 衣包. It is an opportunity to understand why the tradition has been passed down, the meaning behind each step, and how remembrance can help keep cultural traditions connected across generations.
