🧠 Lecture: "Neutrinos: The Origin of Everything?"

🎤 Speaker: Dr. Joseph Howlett

Deep beneath the Black Hills in an abandoned gold mine, physicists are building the far end of a $5 billion underground “tin-can telephone” stretching from Chicago to South Dakota. Their aim: to capture faint messages from one of the universe’s strangest particles—the neutrino—and use them to answer a profound question: How did we get here?

Join Dr. Joseph Howlett for an accessible, fast-paced journey into the DUNE experiment, the largest underground science project ever attempted in the United States. You’ll discover how neutrinos may hold the key to why matter exists at all, and how this bold effort could help restore America’s leadership in particle physics.

Dr. Joseph Howlett is a Senior Reporter at Scientific American. His writing has appeared in The New York Times, the BBC, the San Francisco Chronicle, and many other outlets. Before becoming a journalist, he spent a decade as a particle physicist at Columbia and Stanford Universities, searching for answers to the universe’s biggest mysteries.
