🧠 Lecture: "How We Read People: The Psychology of Social Cues"
🎙️ Speaker: Dr. Sarah Lynch
Most of us move through social life acting as if we’re pretty good mind readers. A delayed text, an odd look, a strange tone, or laughter across the room can send our brains racing to explain what’s really going on. In this talk, developmental psychologist Dr. Sarah Lynch will unpack how our minds turn tiny, often ambiguous social cues into stories, emotions, and actions—usually before we even realize we’re interpreting them.
You’ll explore how attention, memory, expectations, and attribution biases shape which details you notice, what you think they mean, and how easily misunderstandings and conflicts can escalate from almost nothing. Dr. Lynch will connect research on social information processing and cognitive biases to everyday interactions, helping you see why two people can walk away from the same moment with completely different versions of what happened.
Dr. Lynch earned her PhD in Developmental Science from Boston University and has taught at Harvard University, focusing on social-emotional development, family processes, and real-world behavior. She now works with Baby Sleep Science, translating developmental research into practical guidance for families.
