Permission to Create: A Discussion about Art, Ambition, and Diaspora

Permission to Create: A Discussion about Art, Ambition, and Diaspora

Overview

Celebrate the launch of American Malayali Heritage Foundation's Creative Collaborative.

What does it take to choose art—and keep choosing it—when that path may not have been modeled for you?

In celebration of the launch of American Malayali Heritage Foundation's (AMHF) Creative Collaborative, and surrounded by the work of visual artist Melissa Joseph, we're excited to present this conversation about the importance of creative career paths in the South Asian diaspora.

Moderated by AMHF board member Anthony Palliparambil Jr., we will be joined by mixed media artist Melissa Joseph, curator and gallerist Rajiv Menon, dancer and performer Jeeno Joseph, and actress and writer Anita Kalathara for a candid fireside discussion about creative work, family expectations, identity, uncertainty, and finding permission to build the life you want.
