Paella fundraiser for Alysha Cable

Paella Lovers United family,

Back in 2003, before this thing had a name, before we had thirty plus teams and a thousand people showing up for open-fire paella and flamenco, it was just a backyard and a few friends trying to feed a crowd. Alysha was there that very first year, preparing tapas and keeping the sangria flowing.

For years after that, she spearheaded tapas production, pulling together volunteers over multiple nights and weekends leading up to the event to prep enough food for the masses. Behind the scenes, that involved multiple trips to Restaurant Depot, Costco, Restaurant Supply Stores, Specs...you get the picture. And she did not stop at the food. The flowers, the serving equipment, the tablecloths, the beautiful presentations, Alysha led that effort, too. She worked tirelessly for over a decade on this event, and contributed mightily to what evolved into one of Austin's very best cultural and culinary events. While the Paella Cookoff was retired after 17 years, we know that the connections and bonds that were formed over the years still live on.

We recently learned Alysha has stomach cancer. Her surgery is scheduled for November 11th. We want her to go into that day knowing this community remembers what she gave us and is showing up for her now.

We are putting together Paella for Alysha, a small reunion on November 7th, capped at 100-120 people. Tickets are $75 + Eventbrite tax/fees. A small portion covers food and drink; the majority goes directly to Alysha's care and recovery.

If you would be willing to relive some of that old energy in person, tickets are limited and will go fast (Look for Get Tickets on this website). Alysha will be in Austin for the event and would love to see as many of you as possible.
