ABOUT THE BOOK

In this cozy queer romantic fantasy, two members of a motley adventuring crew must confront monsters, hostile landscapes—and a growing attraction neither of them expected.

Sage has made her living as a ranger, moving constantly between adventuring parties, but has never had the chance to lead one of her own. So when she’s offered the opportunity to assemble a crew and recover a rare magical artifact, it feels like a dream come true. There’s just one problem: the quest leads straight into the most inhospitable part of the kingdom, with winter fast approaching.

Araphi has always loved music, in defiance of her powerful family’s expectations. All she wants is one last chance to perform before she has to wed to a man she does not love. Answering a call for a bard seems like the perfect escape—until she discovers it’s for an adventuring party, led by the woman she hasn’t been able to stop thinking about since she first laid eyes on her.

As danger mounts and trust is tested, their newly formed band must learn to work together—or fail. And amid the chaos, Sage and Araphi must decide whether the greatest risk of all is falling for each other.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS

Rebecca Podos (she/they) is the Lambda Literary Award-winning and Cybils Award-winning author of YA novels. Her latest releases are the co-edited anthologyFools in Love(Running Press Kids) and the award-winning YA fantasy novelFrom Dust, a Flame(Balzer + Bray), as well as a story in the YA fairy tale anthologyAt Midnight. Furious, a contemporary YA co-written with Jamie, is her next release. By day, she’s an agent at the Rees Literary Agency.

Jamie Pacton (she/her) is an award-nominated Young Adult and Middle Grade author who lives in Wisconsin with her family. Her YA contemporary books include the forthcomingFurious, Lucky Girl andThe Life and (Medieval) Times of Kit Sweetly. Her YA fantasy novels includeThe Absinthe UndergroundandThe Vermilion Emporium.When she’s not writing, reading, baking, or playing D&D, she teaches English at the college level.

• Tickets for this event are $5, which can be used as $5 credit towards a purchase at SQBG on the day.
• Side Quest Books & Games is located on the Bow Market balcony, in the back left corner. There is an elevator for accessibility in the lobby of Bow Market, to the right of the driveway when you first arrive.
