Overview
Join us online to learn all about bone stress injuries in runners and how to prevent them!
This online session looks at two high-stakes sites for bone stress in runners
- The tibia: Are medial tibial stress syndrome and tibial bone stress injury separate conditions, or points on one continuum? We'll look at what the imaging and histology actually support, and why anterior cortex lesions behave so differently from posteromedial ones.
- The femoral neck: Symptoms are often vague and easy to miss, and the injury is strongly linked to low energy availability. We'll cover why tension-side and compression-side injuries need very different management, and what's at stake if they're missed: displacement, avascular necrosis and a much longer road back to running.
A case study runs through both presentaions, from first consultation to return to full running. It shows how the reasoning turns into load management, energy availability screening and criterion-based progression.
For physiotherapists working with runners who want to sharpen their clinical reasoning rather than collect another protocol.
