Bi Movies Film Club presents Call Me By Your Name

Overview

Join Bi Movies Film Club for a screening of Call Me By Your Name, followed by a discussion at a nearby bar.

Glasgow summer is well and truly over, so come along to Bi Movies Film Club as we pretend we're in sunny Italy with a screening of Call Me By Your Name, followed by a discussion at the Rum Shack.

The sun is shining, Timothée is at his twinkiest, Italo disco is having a moment and Armie Hammer is... also in this one. Not without controversy even before Hammer tanked his own career, Call Me By Your Name gives us Chalamet as a 17-year old Elio, dancing through queerness, repression and Jewish identity in his first summer of love in 1980s Italy.

Luca Guadagnino is possibly our most prolific bisexual auteur (this won't be the last time we screen one of his films!) and this is the film that shot him into queer stardom. Adapted by James Ivory (another queer icon who gave us Maurice) and heartwrenchingly soundtracked by Sufjan Stevens, Call Me By Your Name has a lot more under the summery surface than meets the eye.

Come with us to see how it holds up nearly ten years since its release - tender coming-of-age romance or problematic age gap drama?
