Urban Wildlife in Austin Workshop

We’ll explore the native wildlife species found throughout Austin and Travis County and learn what to do when we encounter them. Raxlen will cover everything from wildlife hazing, attractants, and deterrents to habitat encroachment, common wildlife conflicts, and the policies and procedures for reporting sick, injured, or distressed animals. You’ll also learn how to understand animal behavior better, reduce unwanted encounters, and coexist with our wild neighbors.

Plus an up-close look at a taxidermied coyote, examine wildlife skull models, learn to identify tracks using a pawprint board, and see some of the actual equipment used in wildlife rescue and response.

We’ll wrap things up with a Q&A with Officer Raxlen, giving you the chance to ask about that strange animal you saw in your yard, what to do when wildlife shows up at your door, or anything else you’ve ever wondered about Austin’s wild residents.
