Antipode presents Academy Records’ DEFEAT! - the 9 Choirs:
Every tenth October, DEFEAT! emerges as 9 drummers—3 tightly spaced trios—to batter away in unison in order to suggest a space. For 45 minutes, the pulse is inscribed upon the room… upon us. A rhythm that keeps our walls shaking, one beat after another, after another, after another – then, when silence hits, we’re the ones still moving.
Originally performed in the Midwest (’06) and again on the East Coast (’16), Academy Records’ DEFEAT! – The 9 Choirs is a durational percussion performance that pounds a motorik rhythm into Pioneer Square’s underground architecture as well as all those in attendance.
