Turn the page into a poem! Discover the poet hiding between the lines. Come play with words. Let’s turn old pages into new art.
Come join us for a fun and approachable introduction to the world of Blackout Poetry! Whether you are a seasoned poet looking for a new way to play with language, a creative looking for a unique artistic outlet, or you've never written a poem in your life, this workshop is the perfect place to experiment, create, and share.
Blackout poetry is all about finding the hidden words that are already waiting for you. Using an old book, magazine, or newspaper, you’ll explore words, phrases, and ideas to create something entirely new. Maybe you'll find a love poem hiding inside an old article? How about a tiny story tucked away in a forgotten book? Something interesting is always in the lines of blackout poetry.
No previous poetry or art experience is necessary. We’ll go over the basics, look at examples, and explore different approaches to creating blackout poems. After, you’ll have plenty of time to experiment and play with language! Creative prompts and tips will be provided throughout the session.
Most importantly, there are no wrong answers! This is a space to get creative and see where the words take you. If you're feeling inspired, we'll also have an opportunity to share your creations with the group.
Please bring an old book, magazine, newspaper, or something to blackout. CelebrateME! Will provide pens and markers!
