Is This Normal? A Live Debate on DHS, Deportation & Social Media
Join Immigrant Food & the Philonomosian Society for a live debate: is DHS's use of social media in deportation normal?
Is the Department of Homeland Security's use of social media in its deportation operations normal?
Immigrant Food and Georgetown's Philonomosian Society are bringing that question to the stage for a live, moderated debate- part of Immigrant Food's ongoing "Is This Normal?" series questioning the everyday normalization of immigration enforcement.
The motion: Is it normal that the government spends $200M on deportation ads?
The keynoters:
- Tory- Shae McInnis, SFS'28
- Liberal- Max Dunn, CAS'29
What to expect:
- Opening speeches from both keynoters
- Live cross-examination and rebuttal
- Open audience Q&A
- Closing statements from each side, plus remarks from both organizations
Come with an opinion, or come to form one. Either way, expect a real argument- not a panel.
Georgetown University's debate team, Philonomosian Society, is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected collegiate debating organizations.
Please note that due to limited seating, tables are set up in communal-style seating, so you may be share a table with another party. We've found this only improves debate amongst your fellow attendees.
