Lunch & Conversation with Charlotte Matthews

As part of UVA Public Service Week, join writer, poet, and educator Charlotte Matthews for a small-group reading and conversation exploring the power of education, storytelling, and the written word to transform and unite.

Matthews, an associate professor in UVA's School of Continuing and Professional Studies and an award-winning author of memoir, fiction, essays, and poetry, will read from her forthcoming memoir about teaching incarcerated women at Fluvanna Correctional Center for Women.

The reading will be followed by an open discussion and guided writing exercise.

This event is a good fit for students interested in education, public service, the justice system, creative writing, literature, or the arts. Whether you are curious about higher education in correctional settings, or simply looking for a thoughtful conversation over lunch, you are welcome.

Please note: This is an intentionally small gathering, limited to 20 participants, to encourage meaningful discussion and engagement with the speaker and fellow attendees.
