Fiction Book Group with Alexis
Discusses Near to the Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector, translated by Alison Entrekin
Led by former Greenlight general manager Alexis, our Fiction Book Group meets monthly to discuss paperback fiction, reading broadly in contemporary fiction with the occasional diversion into classics.
For October, the group discusses Near to the Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector, one of Brazil’s greatest modern writers, translated from Portuguese by Alison Entrekin. Published in Rio de Janeiro in 1943, Near to the Wild Heart was an unprecedented sensation—the discovery of genius. Narrative epiphanies and interior monologue frame the life of Joana, from her middle-class childhood through her unhappy marriage and its dissolution to transcendence.
