New Threads Theatre Company

“Spit in Your Face” is a sharp, fearless comedy by playwrights Paul Heller & Alberto Lomnitz.

Barking Legs Theatre

Spit in Your Face has been developed through the New Threads/New Works Program. As we work toward a future full production, we’re opening up the New Threads “lab” and inviting you to be part of the process.Your feedback matters. The questions and ideas shared during our post-reading talkback can help shape the script’s future development.Just as importantly, we want to build community around new work. Come grab a drink and a bite, meet fellow theatre lovers and artists, hear a brand-new play, and join the conversation about what it might become.Spit in Your Face When Tom Leary, Artistic Director of the San Francisco People’s Theatre, commits to making his company more inclusive, he hires the brilliant, and controversial, Mexican director Fernando Calderón to devise a “groundbreaking” new production guaranteed to shake audiences out of their seats.Enter Liliana Tzintzún, a young Mexican American costume intern suddenly thrust into the role of assistant to the director, and into the center of a creative process brimming with ambition, ego, good intentions, and explosive questions.Witty, provocative, and unflinchingly honest, Spit in Your Face asks: Who gets to tell whose story and at what cost?
