This December, Marin Oratorio presents two visions of the season, written nearly three centuries apart: Vivaldi's beloved Gloria and Sarah Quartel's Snow Angel.
One of the most performed choral works in the world, Vivaldi's Gloria juxtaposes bursts of trumpet-and-chorus celebration with softer, more intimate moments. Where Vivaldi looks outward and upward, Sarah Quartel's Snow Angel turns the gaze inward: hushed textures, glinting piano writing, and a childlike sense of awe at the first snowfall of the year.
The evening closes with a gospel-infused arrangement of Bob Dylan's I Shall Be Released, by Adam and Matt Podd, ending the night on a wave of hope.
