Dvořák: Symphony No. 6
Enjoy this rare opportunity to hear Antonín Dvořák’s stunning Symphony No. 6! Often overshadowed by his subsequent symphonies, Dvořák’s sixth is criminally underperformed — just like his later works, it’s filled with beautiful melodies, colorful orchestration, and great rhythmic drive. Among its many highlights are the pastoral first movement, heavily influenced by Brahms, and the fiery Furiant, which earned an encore at the work’s premiere. Charles Gounod’s witty and tuneful Funeral March of a Marionette opens the program. Don’t miss this wonderful evening of live symphonic music!
