About the Exhibit

The exhibition, Chance Encounters, brings together photographs by Andrew Glickman, who has lived and photographed in the Washington, D.C. area for over three decades. The exhibition includes work from several projects and explores the theatricality of everyday life in public spaces, most notably through encounters with strangers. Glickman frames the human condition as simultaneously collective and profoundly individual. We move through shared spaces and engage in everyday routines while pursuing private narratives that remain invisible to others. Transforming seemingly incidental moments into observations about connection and disconnection, the photographs invite us to imagine the stories unfolding within and beyond the photographer’s field of view. They remind us that ordinary daily activities can acquire unexpected emotional resonance.
