Introduction

Interested in learning more about decorated sugar cookies?! Dough and Design is here to help! In this 2.5-hour class, we'll cover the basics of sugar cookies (so, yes, it’s beginner-friendly!), do some piping practice with royal icing, talk about how to strategize the best ways to decorate sugar cookies, and cover the general concepts around dough and icing! Everything you'll need is provided at class, along with a live, in-person instructor; just bring a smile (and maybe an apron).

This month will be super sweet – “bear-y” cute designs featuring bees, honey, bears, hives, and flowers – just in time for spring and summer!

You'll leave class with a better understanding of the basics of sugar cookies, plus a few cool techniques we'll cover in class! More details on refunds, things to bring, credits, and FAQs are below. We look forward to having you with us!

About this Class

This class is for the beginner cookier or for the person who is just curious about what cookie decorating is all about! If you have limited experience with sugar cookies, find yourself frustrated with royal icing, or if you're just wanting to have fun with family or friends, this is the class for you! We will be doing a fun "Oh Honey" theme set that tastes amazing and will look even better once you’ve completed your decorating!

We provide everything you will need, from cookies to icing, sprinkles, and a box to take your awesome creations home in—we just need YOU! Each to-be baker gets 6 cookies, 4 icing colors, sprinkles, and all the tools necessary to knock this cookie class out of the park! Everything is prepped before class, so no baking or icing mixing is required. Just decorate!

This class is on 5/11/24 and is from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., so we can have enough time to decorate and answer questions along the way. Come by yourself, bring your best friend, or bring the family—we have seating for up to 20 people! It's a blast whether you're coming with a friend, family member, or solo!

This class is good for ages 6 and up, but if you'd like to leave the kiddos at home, purchase an add-on kit (more on that below)! The kits are great for kids at home, plus we'll send you the class PowerPoint so you can teach them yourself!

The class will be held at Quail Crossing Golf Club, located at 5 Quail Crossing Drive #8466, Boonville, IN. Nervous about the parking situation? Don’t be! Parking is pretty easy. Pull into the Clubhouse parking lot (first turn off on the left) and park anywhere there's space. The Clubhouse is the building immediately in front of you as you turn into the parking lot. Go in through the right side entryway, and we will be having class behind the partitions.

About Dough & Design

Who doesn’t love getting out and doing something fun while also eating delicious cookies!? That’s what Dough and Design is all about!

These classes are based in Boonville, IN, and cater to the beginner cookier or people just looking to have fun learning a new skill. Whether you just want a fun date, a girls-or-guys-night-out, or just want to explore what cookie decorating is on your own, we have a seat for you.

For our classes, all you will need to bring is yourself (and an apron if you are a messy decorator), and we’ll take care of the rest. Oh, and bring eyeglasses so you can see the instructional PowerPoint if your eyesight is anything like mine. You will get a set of pre-baked cookies (pretty tasty, if I do say so myself), as well as all the supplies you will need to decorate them during the 2.5-hour class. You will leave the class with your very own box of your very own newly decorated cookies!

A little about me: I’ve been baking sugar cookies since November 2022, and I’ve not put down my scribe since (don’t know what a scribe is? I’ll teach you in class!) My favorite cookie themes to decorate so far are the animals. I’ve done everything from dinosaurs to hatching chicks and penguins to ants stealing picnic foods and have loved them all. Of the animals, my favorite to date has probably been the bee themed sets, but I am open to pretty much anything if icing’s involved. I love what I do—who wouldn’t love making cookies?! It’s the sweetest job in the world!

Oh yeah, I have classes throughout the year that highlight different themes, so be sure to check back in to get in on next month’s cookie action!

DIY / Add-On Kits

Order your sugar cookie class add-on kits and take the class home with you to teach a child or friend! These class kits come with everything you'll use in class, and I’ll email you the class PowerPoint so you can follow our step-by-step instructions from home! Cookie Class DIY Kits are created before your class, and you'll pick them up and take them with you after class.

How long can a kit last? Depending on how you store your icing, your kits can last for a week or longer. Freezing cookies keeps them fresh for a long time, but I recommend using your kit as soon as possible—ideally in the first week after you've taken it home. Cookies can be wrapped in Saran Wrap and placed in an airtight container, but again, use them in under a week to make sure they taste the best.

Class Cancellation Policy: Classes may be canceled at the discretion of me, the event host. This rarely happens, but in the extremely rare event that it does, you’ll receive a 100% refund, including your Eventbrite fees.

Classes with attendance below 8 will be canceled. Don’t be sad! You can either switch to another class this month (along with my apologies) or get a full refund! I’ll let you know if your class has low attendance 7 days before the event is canceled so that you can bring a friend (hint hint) or find other plans for that day.

Weather Policy: Sometimes Jack Frost doesn’t play well with cookie class schedules, and Mother Nature seems to be takin’ notes. In the event of inclement weather, I’ll contact you with options; these may differ depending on the weather event, but rest assured, we’ll figure something out!

Eventbrite Fees: Eventbrite does not refund its fees. If you cancel your ticket and request a refund prior to the cancellation window expiring, I’ll happily give you a refund less the Eventbrite fee, since I don’t get this fee back either. Eventbrite keeps it regardless of whether you show up or cancel. I know—I hate it too!

Communications: By purchasing an Eventbrite ticket for this event, you are agreeing to receive email communications from both Eventbrite and me, the event host. You will be required to provide a valid phone number at purchase, but we will only utilize your phone number for urgent notifications, such as class cancellations, if we are unable to reach you via email. This ensures that you are promptly informed of any important updates related to your participation.

Your email will remain our primary mode of communication for regular updates and correspondence. Please ensure that your email address is up-to-date in our records to ensure seamless communication.

Things to Bring

Wondering what you need to bring to have a successful time decorating? Well, nothing's required, but here are the things we recommend if you’d like to elevate your experience!

  • Bring an apron! Things can get messy when you’re working’ with royal icing – so grab an apron (bonus points if it’s cute – I’ll definitely be asking where you got it).
  • Bring your glasses! There’s a reference slide deck to help you decorate, but if things get blurry far away, seeing glasses may be a great bet.
  • Bring your phone! I love it when students take pictures throughout class – so bring a phone!
  • Bring a mask if you’d like! These classes follow the state health guidelines, but if you’d like to wear a mask throughout class – please do!
  • Bring a good attitude! Cookies are fun, but they're also challenging! A good attitude makes all the difference.

Frequently asked questions

What will I be doing in the class?

Besides having the most fun ever? We will be going over some cookie facts, decorating techniques and you will be decorating your very own set of cookies that you will take home with you that day.

Can I purchase additional take-home kits?

Yes! Many parents or practicing cookiers purchase additional class kits to take home and re-do the classes. You can purchase an add-on kit during check-out. Your kit will be available at the end of your class, so don't forget it!

Do I need to know how to bake?

Nope! No baking history required. We will have the cookies pre-made for you along with the icing already mixed and colored. Have a little decorating experience under your belt… er… apron? Come too! I can help with questions on icing mixing and dough spread!

What will we learn in class?

You’ll learn what goes into preparing royal icing, different icing consistencies – we’ll touch on tips and tricks to make your cookies look even better than they taste (and they taste good)! You’ll also learn different decorating techniques depending on the class theme!

What do I need to bring?

Nothing but a smile! Everything will be provided for you including my (rather tasty) sugar cookies. All you need to do is join us and have fun! Messy decorator? You can bring your own apron. There is a PowerPoint for reference, so if you wear glasses, we'd encourage you to bring them as well.

What age is best for cookie classes?

Our in-person classes are great for ages 6 and up. If you think your child may not enjoy the in-person class, purchase additional take-home kits! We'll send you the class PowerPoint, and you can teach your kids in the comfort of your own home!

Can just my child take the class?

We require that a parent attend class with children under 13. Due to space restrictions, we do not have room for parents to stand by and watch their children in class, so unfortunately, your adorable kiddo cannot take the class alone. A parent must also purchase a General Admission ticket.

What will I bring home?

By the end of the class, you will have created a set of gorgeous cookies ready to dry for 24 hours in their own box. I’ll send you a list of the tools we used in class, complete with links, so that you can recreate these cookies at home. And of course, you’ll have new skills, memories, and fun!

Can I sign up as an individual or as a group?

You can sign up either as an individual, with a friend, or with a whole group. The more, the merrier! We are limited to a total of 20 seats per class, though, so definitely sign up ASAP!

Where are the classes located?

This class will be held at Quail Crossing Golf Club, located at 5 Quail Crossing Drive #8466, Boonville, IN.

I signed up for a class but can't make it?

:( We understand that life happens, so that’s why we allow you to cancel up to 7 days before the class. You can always transfer your spot to a friend, though (and what a nice friend you are).
