About this event

2 Part Lighting 101: Intro to Flash with Hands on Workshop

Course Overview:

One of the most common fears among new photographers is the reluctance they feel towards using their flash. But this tool opens avenues to exciting imagery! Being able to effectively use flash allows a photographer to create stunning people pictures, dramatic macros, and expressive landscapes.

This online workshop with give you more confidence with your speedlite to add more light to your subjects, giving better tonal range and more dramatic images.

Online Lecture

Many photographers feel confident with their shooting until they are asked to use lighting equipment. But this should not be an intimidating experience. In fact it should be artistically freeing. In this lecture we will explore how to set up a classic outdoor portrait. We will learn how create quality light on our subject’s face, how to underexpose sunlight, and how to overcome shadows.

This class will also serve as an introduction to the Godox Lighting System, an incredibly versatile and popular system for enthusiasts and professionals alike.

Evening Shoot

There is no better way to practice your portraiture and lighting skills than through a hands on shoot. We will work with off camera gear and live models and create on location portraits with the assistance of an instructor.

For the shoot, lighting equipment will be provided, but you will want to bring your own camera and lens.

In this introductory class we will learn:

  • Balancing the ambient exposure and the flash exposure
  • Mixing manual camera exposure with TTL flash.
  • Using off camera triggering and transmitters to control gear.
  • Setting up modifiers to create the preferred lighting effect.
  • Where to place lights, subjects, sun, and reflectors when on location.

This class will feature an hour-long presentation followed by 30-60 minutes of Q&A plus the follow up in person photography experience.

Due to the hands of nature of this workshop it is limited to 12 attendees
