Methane (CH4) drives over 80 times more near-term global warming than CO2, yet up to 90% of fugitive industrial emissions in the Asia-Pacific region go undetected. Join Nara Space Technology at APRSAF-32 to explore how high-resolution hyperspectral satellites are transforming greenhouse gas monitoring into actionable environmental governance.

Serving as the official regional announcement platform ahead of its Q4 2026 launch, this 3-part interactive session introduces NarSha: Korea’s first private industry led methane-monitoring microsatellite constellation.

As the manufacturers and operators of NarSha, Nara Space aims to present the mission's technical capabilities and demonstrate how spaceborne point-source detection (>100 kg/h) can be combined with local sensor networks to eliminate monitoring blind spots, identify major emitters, and scale localized measurements into verifiable regional emission baselines.

Ahead of the constellation's deployment, this session invites APRSAF space agency leaders, institutional decision-makers, and academic researchers seeking high-fidelity CH4 hyperspectral data to participate in a blend of technical briefings and collaborative discussions designed to shape future data requirements and regional collaboration models. Thorugh the event, Nara Space aims to create an open collaborative forum to shape future data requirements, foster regional partnerships, and empower APAC leaders to enhance their Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) frameworks in pursuit of national climate commitments.

Session 1: Technical Briefing — The NarSha Constellation & Data Access

Discover the operational mechanics behind the NarSha mission—a planned constellation of 12+ microsatellites (16U, <25 kg) specifically designed for high-frequency revisits across the Asia-Pacific. Participants will learn how integrated SWIR and VNIR hyperspectral sensors isolate and detect point-source methane leaks across a 10 km x 10 km swath at spatial resolutions finer than 50 meters. Nara Space will also outline data-sharing pathways, illustrating how partners can access data products within 4 weeks of request to support national emissions inventories.

Session 2: Lessons from the GYEONGGISat Climate Monitoring Program

Explore a proven, real-world blueprint for localized climate action by examining the GYEONGGISat program, a three-satellite initiative led by South Korea's Gyeonggi Province and implemented by Nara Space. The programme is designed to deploy two dedicated greenhouse gas monitoring satellites to observe methane emissions across industrial complexes and power generation facilities in Gyeonggi Province, paired with an optical satellite for climate disaster response. Participants will learn practical procurement and application strategies, discovering how municipal and national agencies can acquire and utilize targeted satellite data to enforce regulations and drive local environmental governance.

Session 3: Regional Collaboration, User Needs & Data Integration

Engage directly with peers to shape how new CH4 data pipelines are integrated into existing and future regional Earth observation infrastructures. In this collaborative forum, participants will exchange perspectives on the technical requirements necessary to meet local methane MRV regulatory compliance. You will have the opportunity to map out how NarSha's hyperspectral data can be operationalized into concrete regional initiatives, exploring pathways such as the APRSAF SAFE Framework prototyping, multi-source data fusion, academic Cal/Val partnerships, and regional energy transition monitoring.
