Get ready to move. Onye & The Messengers bring their high-energy Afrobeat, funk and global groove sound to Mac’s at 19 Broadway for an Afro Funk Dance Party in Fairfax, with DJ Bankshot keeping the dance floor moving.
Led by renowned Nigerian percussionist, songwriter and cultural ambassador Onye Onyemaechi, Onye & The Messengers are a Northern California Afrobeat and Global Grooves dance band blending traditional West African rhythms with funk, jazz and contemporary global sounds. Their live shows are built around percussion, horns, vocals, a driving rhythm section and an interactive energy made for dancing.
Fans of Fela Kuti, Manu Dibango and Santana will feel at home in the band’s mix of polyrhythmic grooves, funk, soul, jazz and global influences.
DJ Bankshot rounds out the party with a crate-digger’s mix of disco, boogie, house and rare grooves.
