Sean "Mack" McDonald walked out of the 2026 Blues Music Awards with Best Emerging Artist Album for his debut, Have Mercy!, and he is still in his mid twenties. The Augusta, Georgia native cut it at Kid Andersen's Greaseland Studios in San Jose with Andersen producing and playing second guitar, June Core on drums, and Jim Pugh on keys: four originals set against deep cuts from Bobby "Blue" Bland and Ike Turner. Tonight he brings the Greaseland engine with him, Kid Andersen (Rick Estrin & the Nightcats) on guitar and June Core (Charlie Musselwhite, Little Charlie & the Nightcats) on drums.
He was 15 when a clip of him tearing through "Dust My Broom" in an Augusta music store went viral, and Georgia bluesman Jontavious Willis gave him his first show outside his hometown. He grew up on Bobby Bland's guitarists, T-Bone Walker, and early B.B. King, and it shows: a warm tenor, real swing, and a guitar that never plays more notes than the song needs. He has toured Europe repeatedly and studied audio production at Middle Tennessee State. Catch him while the room is still this small.
