Learn to Use a Sewing Machine (Cambridge)

Do you have a sewing machine but don't know what all the knobs are for and how to use it? Or perhaps you sewed a long time ago and need a refresher? Come to this workshop and learn to use a sewing machine by bringing your own or renting ours!
Topics we will cover include:

• How to thread your machine
• Adjusting for the correct tension for the fabric
• What's a bobbin and how to wind it correctly
• Replacing a bobbin
• When and how to change the Foot
• When and how to change the Needle
• Troubleshooting and maintenance
• Exploring various stitches

As practice, we will sew some simple projects such as coasters and placemats! Fabric is not included but is available for purchase in-store. Please bring:

• Your sewing machine and foot pedal
• The manual, if you have one. If not, that's ok.
• Any attachments that came with your machine, such as zipper foot, spare needles
• Thread ('All Purpose' is fine). Do not use Quilting thread
• Optional: Small piece of cotton fabric (half a yard) to practice stitches. Please make sure your fabric is not stretchy, knit or jersey.

If you bring your own machine, please make sure that it is in working order (turns on, has no missing parts, is well oiled, has no known issues, and ideally is no older than 10 years). Do not bring an antique sewing machine please. This workshop is focused on sewing so in order to ensure that everyone has a quality experience, the host will not be able to spend time troubleshooting machines that don't work. In case your machine is faulty, we will request that you rent a machine and pay for the rental fee on-site in order to continue your lesson.

Each ticket is valid for one attendee only, and we’re not able to offer a guest option for this workshop. Please note that a minimum of two attendees is required for the workshop to run. In the rare case that no one else is registered a few days before the scheduled start time, we’ll reach out to let you know.
