My grandparents' Tablecloth - Exhibition by Dóra Benyó

Dóra Benyó's body of work, spanning painting, video, and performance, is deeply rooted in personal and political narratives, exploring her connection to her motherland, Hungary, and its dictatorial past. Working from archival materials and personal ephemera from her grandparents. Benyó translates her research into painting, by blurring identities, timelines, and distinctions between fact and legend. Her work explores the space between documentation and imagination, questioning how memories are constructed and transmitted, and what is lost over time. My Grandparents' Tablecloth is Benyó's solo exhibition at the Liszt Institute Brussels, presented on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution and Freedom Fight in 1956. It weaves together oral histories and archival records where solidarity and courage were the guiding gestures.

Dóra Benyó (Budapest, HU) lives and works between Brussels and The Hague. Group exhibitions include those at de boer, Los Angeles & Antwerp, Klauzál 6 projekt space, Budapest, HU; Art Au Centre, Liege, BE; Gallery, Tegenboschvanvreden, Amsterdam, NL, many others. She completed Artist Residencies at Berlin Alexanderplatz; Berlin and AQB institute, Budapest, HU and was supported by the Mondrian Fund. Benyó received an MFA from Sint Lukas, LUCA School of the Arts, Brussels, BE; a BFA from The Royal Academy of Fine Arts, The Hague, NL, and studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, Budapest, HU.
