Offerings : Artist Reception with Regina Herod

Join us for an artist reception celebrating Offerings, a solo exhibition by LA-based and PRS contributing artist Regina Herod, in conversation with curator Dama.

Regina Herod’s sculptural practice is a calling forth of ancestral memory, of wounds and wisdom buried beneath the surface. Working in wood, wax, metal, glass, and fire, she shapes these stories into form. Her materials twist, char, rupture, and mend, echoing cycles of displacement, migration, and becoming. Herod’s practice speaks to survival and beauty, to history’s shadow and the light forged in spite of it.

Herod initially studied theater before turning to visual art, earning her BFA from San Diego State University and her MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. That early grounding in performance still lives in her sculptures, which carry a sense of gesture and unfolding narrative.

For this show, Herod presents work never shown before: encaustic paintings built up in thick, layered surfaces of wax and pigment, almost skin-like in texture; sculptures, jewelry, crystal work, and hand-bound books stitched and assembled with the feel of something rare and half-forgotten. Each piece carries a devotional quality, like a small altar, giving the exhibition its title, Offerings.
