Autumn Arrives at Bellevue Pond
Please join Boot for an early autumn walk around Bellevue Pond to explore late blooming flowers, plants in fruit, and more.
Leader: Boot Boutwell
Pace: Slow
Difficulty: Moderate, with some rocky inclines with uneven surfaces.
Appropriate for: All. Children ages 10+ welcome if accompanied by an adult.
About Boot: Roland “Boot” Boutwell, a freelance itinerant naturalist, has been leading nature walks for the Friends of the Fells for over 25 years. He has also led walks and/or taught botany programs for a number of other organizations including The Trustees of Reservations, Arlington Community Education, The Massachusetts Association of Conservation Commissions, Winchester public schools, Wright-Locke Farm in Winchester, The New England Wild Flower Society and the Massachusetts Audubon Society.
About the walk: Autumn is the season of clear blue skies, beautiful leaf color, migrating birds and ripening fruits, and it arrives with the Autumnal Equinox on September 22nd. We’ll celebrate the beginning of autumn with a walk at Bellevue Pond searching for late blooming flowers, and plants which are now in fruit. The walk will focus on plant ID as well as fun and interesting natural history. We’ll also talk a bit about what the equinox signifies and why the days are getting shorter. And of course a few poems will be sprinkled throughout the program.
Meet at the Bellevue Pond Parking Lot, South Border Road, Medford, opposite #70.
Arrive early, parking may be tight.
Steady rain postpones.
**Please do not register unless you can absolutely attend this walk. We often have waitlists and would like as many folks as possible to be able to attend.**
