The typographic work of TJWP is a central feature for his approach to design. His vibrant, animated treatments of type offer a refreshing burst of color to the often monochrome world of typography and elevate it in layout. With a background in advertising, his letterforms have brought character to major brands, whether as a bespoke typeface or a striking logo. Sometimes he takes the helm as art director, other times he rolls up his sleeves for the meticulous work of font production. TJWP is a London born multidisciplinary designer that has spent the last 14 years living and working in Amsterdam. Having worked in different areas of the creative industry, he’s developed an interest around the intersectional space between design, typography and brand identity.

The talk explores the relationship between branding and typography, looking at the value and role of the typeface as a brand asset and the modern nature of custom type to offer broader richer brand systems. Drawing on a range of examples of personal and professional work, it will look at the intersection of visual culture, copywriting and written language (a space where typography naturally sits as the common denominator) to see how deeper meaning is found from the base origin of autonomous graphic form. The talk will present the personal experience of collaborative working methods in type design, examining the idea of typography itself as a tool for creative discourse.
