In recent years, outcomes for ischemic stroke patients have improved due to the development of a novel therapy, mechanical thrombectomy. In this procedure, the blood clot occluding the vessel is removed mechanically, under X-ray guidance. Computer vision and artificial intelligence techniques may be applied to guide and support the clinician during this procedure. In this talk, we will discuss applications of artificial intelligence which may be used to facilitate mechanical thrombectomy. We will also explore the challenges of implementing these applications in clinical practice.
About the Speaker
Frank is a PhD candidate contributing to the ICAI Stroke Lab, where he leverages AI-driven innovations to transform stroke care and optimize the patient treatment pathway. His research focuses on applying advanced medical imaging analysis and computer science to neurovascular data, creating intelligent tools that enhance clinical decision-making from prehospital care to rehabilitation. Drawing on a dual background as a medical doctor and computer scientist, Frank aims to bridge the gap between complex clinical practice and transparent, actionable medical AI to improve outcomes in stroke interventions and therapy.
